Course Information

Who is the course for?

This course is perfect for those who are ‘new’ to working in the health and/or social care sector in roles where there is direct contact with individuals needing care and support.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to equip those who are interested in working in the healthcare sector as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) with the basic knowledge and skills of the role, responsibilities and working environment.

Course Objectives

The objective of this training course is for all participants to:

  • describe the tasks, responsibilities and skills of the healthcare assistant role.

  • develop their practical skills to excel in their HCA role.

  • be aware of the basic nursing terminology and basic nursing/care equipment.

  • explain the difference between health and social care, the different healthcare settings including the function and type of patients in each setting and most importantly key training requirements such as: communication, safeguarding, infection control, equality, diversity, inclusion, health, safety and security.

  • understand the agency registration requirements, the need for training and personal development and the employment/career progression routes.

Course Structure

This course has been designed with close links and in line with the Care Certificate. It has been created and adapted so that it is easily accessible by people from all backgrounds and abilities.

The programme contains a combination of trainer and trainee led, individual and group based activities which include video and audio resources. This is not an accredited course.

 

Dates: Two days every month (TBC)

Time: 10.00am - 4.00pm

Location: Deptford, London, SE8.

A detailed schedule will be provided 48 hours before the start date.

On the second day, participants will undertake a one-hour multiple choice written assessment and be issued with a certification upon completion.

Investment includes:

  • 2 day Healthcare Assistant training programme.

  • 1 day mandatory training.

  • Enhanced DBS check.

  • 1 week unpaid work placement at a UK based nursing/care home.
